For other creatures.. well… The ane thing that isn't a tip is just that I grew up obsessed with drawing animals. I've been cartoon since I could hold a pencil, but just started cartoon humans 5 years ago when I was twenty (which is a WHOLE other story)

This is definitely fun only it doesn't look like an actual animal, its very plain a mashed creature. Trying to run with hooves AND paws? Is it predator or prey? Whats with all the clashing patterns?

Yeah! My biggest tip is agreement Splice vs Blend techniques, <- I go into a LOT of particular on getting a cohesive creature here.

Some quick review:

Splicing doesn't make things wrong, but it makes them unnatural. Sometimes unnatural is the way to go!
To refresh splice vs blend: A manticore using Asiatic lion, Indian scorpion, and "ancient Western farsi bosom" statue reference. I like to reference animals and people of the time and identify where myth originates
Splicing (pinnacle) looks like a creature formed by a bored god; meant to be uncanny and threatening in its familiarity. But the blended version (bottom) looks more similar a predator that evolved in the jungles of India that tin and volition swallow you whole.
Both blending and splicing are valid, but I similar blending all-time in most circumstances. Let'due south endeavour some other one.
I think we can all agree this creature looks super cool. But what is information technology? It's like juicing up for a very tasty dream by consuming your favorite genre, characters, settings, etc and hoping your subconscious combines them.
If the last result is your target, and you lot see your drawing arm as a gun taking aim, and then references are your bullets. Fill the sleeping accommodation with reference unless you lot want to play roulette.
Your kickoff stride in reference gathering is to exist specific. Know what you want and stick with it. I searched specifically for African Lion and Aureate Hawkeye. Being specific helps you lot observe item more accurately, and it already puts yous ane step ahead of generic designs.
